Cosima von Bonin

Cosima von Bonin (b. 1962) has been selected by mumok, Vienna, for a 2018 collaboration with Due Leoni. The German artist’s work spurns the family crest and noble olive associations of Due Leoni, and depicts, instead, a basic utilitarian funnel and a Greek Kalamata table olive, the latter, a species never utilized for olive oil. In this ironic subversion, von Bonin allies herself with the practice of post-Pop artists who grapple with the role of beauty, or what is considered refined taste, and explores the extent in which such aesthetics may be stretched.

In 2012 Director Karola Kraus started to invite artists who are presented in exhibitions at mumok to create editions or unique works for the institution–a tradition that has since been continued with great success. This is the third edition Cosima Bonin created for mumok.
